The Clothier (also Clother, Clothyer) surname is an occupational name from the cottage industry of weaving, within the wool towns of SW England. Then, they were weavers and merchandisers of cloth. Clothiers now live in USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, and South Africa, as well as Somerset and neighboring shires, in the mother country.

Computation of consanguinity and relationship

Clothiers have lived primarily in these USA regions: Connecticut River, Western Mass, Hudson River, Western NY, North PA, Philly PA, Kansas, Utah, and Calif. And all 50 states. By tracking their adventures and journeys one will learn North American history. No doubt, the Clothiers of Canada, Australia, and the world can claim the same.
We descendents to the Clothier surname may not be all related genetically, but we do claim common origins in the Cloth industry. Our ancestors and their cottage industry were central to carving out a middle class from serfdom. The industrial revolution may have left most of the Clothiers behind. But they helped start it: from hand looms to steam looms, the machine age began with cloth merchandising.

1. Information Update and Protection
Information update (adding, modification, deletion of persons and families) can be done from a web browser.
A password will allow full communication only to persons that are responsible users. This password is changeable at any time by the webmaster. Persons knowing the password will be able to make record changes, even if they are on the other side of the planet.
On the other hand, still-living persons want their personal information to be hidden. Another password automatically limits displaying of information on persons born in the last century.

2. Consanguinity
The consanguinity between two persons tells the relationship as a percentage. Between brothers and sisters, it is 25% and is no more than 6% between cousins. The different combinations of relationship links between two
persons lead to complex computing, impossible to make by hand. An engine on this site will make this computation for you.
